Biso Dola Ella
This is my attempt to bring you closer to another historical heritage of ours located in Malimbada local council area of Matara district in the southern province, which combines beauty as well as historical heritage... From Telijjawila junction on the main road from Matara towards Akurassa, on the main road leading towards Weligama, the entrance road to Telijjawila Central High School is located. The history of this Biso Valley dates back to the era of the Waragamba King and legends say that the King of Waragamba used to hide in this area. Also, in the past, the local kings of Ruhuna ruled this area and there are legends that the queens of those kings came to bathe in this place. It is possible to think that Bisovarun Diya na Dola became Biso Dola in later times. In the past, the area where this Biso River is
60
located was known as the oath field and the elders of the village say that in the past, there was a stone pillar here that was used to place the hands of those involved in the proceedings to swear. Starting from a group of small streams from the top of a high rock, this stream has flowed very impressively through the granite rocks in the past, but today that scene cannot be seen and the stream can be seen flowing down in two tracks. Out of the two tracks, one track has an old form and the other track has recently been created with the intervention of Malimbada local council.
An inscription there testifies that the queens who came to worship at Devinuwara Sri Upulvan Temple in the past came to the historical place called Muhandiram Valava located in this area and it is also believed that this place was named Biso Dola because those queens came to bathe in this place. It is felt that there are many secrets of the past hidden in the environment full of beauty and mystery and in the past, the Badi Delgasa tree that was above this place was covering this area as a wild tree, but as a result of many short-sighted human activities, it has collapsed many years ago. Losing the system itself. However, thanks to the intervention of people with beautiful hearts who love nature, it is a matter of happiness that these rivers have been preserved to this extent for future
generations.
Not only in the Telijjawila area but also the people living in the surrounding villages come to bathe here and Biso stream has also managed to attract tourists. I hope to bring you more information about this beautiful Biso river in the future. I see it as the responsibility of all of us to protect this historical heritage.
