Liyanagasthota Amuna

About 16 kilometers from Nonagama junction near Ambalantota town on Embilipitiya road. After turning from the Barawakumbuka Junction and going about two kilometers on the Liangastota Road, In the Julangate village official's domain called "Liangasthota Amuna". You will be able to see the beautiful place. Starting from the peak of Samanala Hill, crossing the river valley of Walawe which kisses the sea from Ambalantota Godavai.This beautiful place built by a dam in Liangasthota village is the location of Liangasthota Amuna.When we go near this anvil, we feel a wonderful charm.The sweet streams flowing with white foam bubbles.
The foam that is burning in the waves of the cold wind blowing between them, the heart is filled with a strange sweetness.Not only that, when you go along the bank of the embankment and go down a little under the forest, you can't get over how cool you feel.On the other side, the roots of the big trees that were washed away by the water.They are woven together, creating beautiful patterns. Look beautiful. The Liangstota Dam, created by the British in 1849, can be called an amazing creation created and bequeathed by man not only to the Liangstota village, but also to the Ambalantota Divisional Secretariat. Liangasthota Dam, which feeds the right bank and left bank of the pit, has become a source of life for uplifting the local agricultural economy in the area today. According to the villagers around it, due to the repeated collapse of this dam during construction, it has not been possible to complete the work on this dam. As a solution, the Englishman arranged to offer a sacrifice, whereupon he spoke to an old man who was selling betel nuts nearby, pointed to the pit and said, "My ring has fallen into the pit. Take it away." It is said that the old man was pushed into the pit by the Englishman when he was about to go down into the pit and was pressed with earth...
After that, the villagers say that they were able to continue the work without breaking the anvil. This was handed over to the Irrigation Department and the construction work was completed in the year 1889.The left bank and the right bank of the Liyangstota Embankment are divided into two parts. The length of the anvil is 240 feet. The eighteen holed anvil includes four sand drains and two control holes. The length of the entrance canal on the south bank is 7.5 km. The area cultivated in the southern part of this dam with four sluices is 8000 acres. The cultivated land in the left bank area is about 8500 acres.

In this area, which is rich in plant diversity such as gum kohomba, kumbuk, attika, lian, etc. Endemic birds such as the red flower parrot, the gray parrot and several species of waterfowl live here. Also, this place is a home of bats, Rilawa, the great black monkey is common here, you can see the crocodile along the river. Liangasthota Dam, which attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists, is an indication of the development of Heladiva irrigation technology.
